Ange Postecoglou makes feelings very clear on under-pressure Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag

Ange Postecoglou has hailed Erik ten Hag despite the growing pressure on the Manchester United manager.

The Dutchman is under huge pressure at Old Trafford following a poor start to the campaign. The Red Devils have won just three out of their opening seven games of the campaign and sit 11th in the Premier League table.

The club’s poor run of form continued in midweek after they were held by FC Twente in their Europa League opener. Questions over Ten Hag’s role come just months after Sir Jim Ratcliffe handed him a new contract at Old Trafford.

But Postecoglou has given his backing to the former Ajax boss. Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s clash with United this weekend, the Australian said: "I mean there's always some manager under pressure.

“I think there must be a sort of- what do they call one of those spinning boards with all our faces on it and whatever it lands on - he's the one that cops it for a week or two.

"But I think Erik's in a real tough job. He's done really well. He keeps mentioning he's won two trophies and he has, so I don't think that's insignificant.

“Everyone keeps telling me that's all I have to do, but obviously it's not all you have to do because when you do that then there's more, there's always more. So I think he's done a great job and like I said, a difficult job and at Old Trafford, it's tough there.

"You look at their record irrespective of the managers, it's still a fairly compelling record there and they've got some real quality players. So, we had a really good game there last year. We ended up 2-2 and it was a cracking game and yeah, it's one we're going to be ready for."

Ratcliffe appeared to be so convinced of a change of manager in the summer that he started talking to potential replacements. Talks were held with ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, but an agreement could not be found.

Ratcliffe is also a huge admirer of Graham Potter - who has been out of work since his Stamford Bridge exit. A defeat this weekend could potentially see the United minority owner put more consideration to a change in manager.

Speaking ahead of the game, Ten Hag said: "Of course, it's not good behaviour from me, I am impatient, I want to go straight forward. But also be fair, we had success in the last two seasons and we have to work very hard for more success.”
