Double Arsenal January signing boost after financial injection gives Stan Kroenke no excuses

Arsenal have looked lost without Martin Odegaard at times and have seen their free-flowing fluid football of the previous seasons which contributed to their establishment of title-challenging status fade.

The next opportunity to do so will be in the January transfer window.

The Brazilian was responsible for the ongoings behind the scenes with transfers and will not be present for this winter’s market although work will have been done by his team, including Jason Ayto.

A centre-forward and a wide player are particularly coveted by many. Arsenal’s forwards have struggled to create clear-cut chances in the absence of Odegaard and there is a feeling that the Gunners miss another player who can provide that X-factor and create something from nothing – a matchwinner.

The burden has fallen heavily on Bukayo Saka’s shoulders who has only just returned from injury himself. Gabriel Martinelli has struggled while Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard have also received scrutiny.

There is little place for Arsenal to hide when it comes to investment this winter either. Profit and Sustainability regulations meant that there was a need to bring money in before serious investment could happen for the Gunners.

Only two permanent players were added in Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino. While Arsenal did well overall regarding sales, the money for Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale did not arrive until the final day of the window.

This gave the club very little time to reinvest it on targets that at that stage were not easily gettable. However, with that money through the door, there is freedom for Arsenal to spend this winter and they certainly should.

In 2023, Arsenal spent around £60million on Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior and Jorginho who all contributed to the late push despite falling short. A similar injection of quality in 2025 would be massively helpful to the Gunners’ same cause – if their title ambitions remain alive by that point of course.
