Alison Steadman has shared her feelings of 'dread' now that filming for Gavin and Stacey has ended.

The final special of the show is set to air later this year, with Ruth Jones and James Corden among others saying goodbye to their characters for the last time. The finale has been eagerly awaited by fans, but the ending remains a mystery.

As the filming comes to an end, Alison reflected on her experience on the show and how she was moved to tears during the final scenes. She said on The One Show: "We've had a great five weeks. We only finished on Monday night but we were all dreading that final scene when we finished. 90% of us were in tears. Some people braved it but it's been so fantastic.

"We had a wrap party. It was very nice, it was lovely. We'll just miss not filming it anymore. It was fabulous."

Alison showered compliments on James and Ruth - who portray Smithy and Nessa - for their "witty" scripts, revealing that she had always dreamt of playing the role as soon as she first read the script, reports .

"James and Ruth together, they are amazing, their scripts. So witty and funny! When I read the first scene, I was like, I've got to do this. I couldn't wait. I was going through the script and they didn't let me down!" she added.

When filming wrapped up in Dinas Powys - the actual location of Pam and Mick's 'Essex' home - James addressed the fans and expressed his gratitude for their support.

He said: "Today is our last day in 'Essex'. Everyone in Dinas Powys has been so great to the show so thank you very, very much. It means more to us than you will ever know and we hope that you like the show."

Ruth conveyed her thanks as well, adding: "Thanks so much for being such dedicated fans and for being here every day and watching us even though we were there hid in the house. We hope that you will enjoy our little episode on Christmas Day."

After wrapping up filming, the BBC's official account shared the news with a tweet that read: "And that's a wrap... for the last time ever. See you on Christmas Day! #GavinAndStacey."
