Harry Kane to Tottenham transfer buy-back clause explained after Daniel Levy confirmation

Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur faced each other for the third time in barely a year this evening, meaning a reunion for a Spurs great.

After meeting 12 months ago in Seoul on their pre-season tours of Asia, the two teams played a rematch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a week later. Bayern won both games by the odd goal and now repay the favour by hosting Spurs in Munich.

The Bundesliga champions ran out comfortable 4-0 winners, and it was a night of mixed fortunes for former Tottenham hero Harry Kane, who scored against his old club before blazing a penalty high over the bar.

The previous match of what is now a trilogy was most notable as Kane made his first return to north London in red. Bayern paid Spurs almost £100million to sign the England captain, two years ago.

The club, however, reportedly have a first option agreement to re-sign Kane. Something similar is said to have been in place when Real Madrid signed Gareth Bale for a world record fee of £85million and he would eventually return seven years later, albeit only on loan.

Supporters asked Daniel Levy 'is there a buy-back clause,' during a fans' forum following Kane's move, to which the club's chairman replied: "Of course". Sky Sports reported at the time that if Bayern accept an offer from another Premier League club, then Tottenham will be given first refusal to match that offer.

Kane is also said to have had a release clause worth £67million during the last winter transfer window. However, that price reputedly drops to £54million when the market opens again on New Year's Day for the first month of next year.

As of yet, the forward has not publicly entertained a Premier League return since departing for the Bundesliga. "I don't really think about it," Kane told the BBC earlier this year.

"I really enjoy my time here, and I'm not thinking about being anywhere else. We have a great coach, a great team, and I just want to be as successful as I can with Bayern."
