Helldivers 2 SH-32 Shield Generator fix sparks theory about high level player rewards

Send Push

A bug in the last patch granted invincibility from Terminid melee attacks which – in what really shouldn't be a surprise – was not intended. And the hotfix caused even more confusion.

Arrowhead Game Studios loves its Helldivers lore, with a lot of the communication with players taking the form of missives from Super Earth and its bureaucracy. In case you've been living under a super sample, Super Earth's Managed Democracy is closer to a fascist regime than a free and fair utopia for all, and thanks to a bug in the last patch, some poor, imaginary workforce is being punished with more mandatory (and democratic) training.

The huge Helldivers 2 update that just dropped this week is the first of many to bring the game back to a place players are happy with after the failings of the Escalation of Freedom update, and so far, it's working. However, one bug slipped through that players will be sad to see go.

The Helldivers 2 SH-32 Shield Generator Pack is a godsend whether you're a bug or bot killer – especially against Hunters. It negates a lot of the more annoying effects like being stunned and slowed, but this week's update accidentally granted it the buff players only dream of: invulnerability to hit damage, as demonstrated by this Helldiver on Reddit.

To the disappointment of us all, though, Arrowhead deployed a hotfix to sort it out the next day, with the patch notes addressing the Helldivers 2 SH-32 Shield Generator bug with the usual lore-based humour:

"Helldivers were accidentally granted the SH-32 Shield Generator Packs from General Braschs personal stash. These are reserved for 10 star generals only. The workers at the distribution center have been sent to re-education camps and regular shields will resume distribution."

The funny thing is that 10-Star General is already a title that players can attain when they hit level 130, which creative director Johan Pilestedt, acknowledged on a Reddit thread.

"We realized that too late lol," he said in response to someone pointing this out. "It was intended to be a dumb joke, but we forgot we already made that dumb joke, and now the jokes overlap to be confusing.... which is metadumb. So, in conclusion: you're welcome...We'll leave this as a 'doh' moment".

So for players over on Reddit speculating that the Helldivers 2 SH-32 Shield Generator Pack is actually going to offer this invincibility buff, just know, it ain't happening fella. It was a short-lived bug, and it was fantastic – and now it's gone as quickly as it came. The hotfix also targeted a crash that has been popping up during host migration when a new players joins a session. We've shared the patch notes for the hotfix below.

In the meantime, don't forget to check out the Chemical Agents, the new Helldivers 2 Warbond releasing today, as well as the 60-day roadmap that looks set to lure fallen players back to the game.

Known Issues (Same as last patch)

These are the highest priority issues that were either introduced by this patch and are being worked on, or are from a previous version and have not yet been fixed. This is not a comprehensive list.

Top Priority:
  • Players may not receive Friend Requests sent from another platform
  • Large units have no audio cues, allowing them to sneak up on players
  • Enemies will try to shoot the generators through walls in the Rescue High-Value Assets mission
  • Enemies are sometimes capable of shooting through walls
  • Social menu is stuck on ‘Please Wait Democratically’ for some players
  • Dead bodies of Chargers can launch the Helldiver into the air
  • Stratagem balls bounce unpredictably off cliffs and some spots
  • Players may sometimes be unable to join specific friends, or are returned to ship when joined
Medium Priority:
  • Reinforcement may not be available for players who join a game in progress
  • Mines may become invisible or may disappear in Multiplayer lobbies
  • Pelican-1 may sometimes be launched away if hit with an impaler tentacle
  • Supply packs may be incorrectly used if pressing down on a controller while calling in a stratagem
  • Friends "Invite only" games can still be seen on the Galactic War Map but cannot be joined
  • High damage weapons will not detonate hellbombs
  • Some enemies that bleed out do not progress Personal Orders and Eradicate missions

It was good while it lasted! And the SH-32 Shield Generator Pack is still a strong addition to your loadout; it was just better for that one day it made you invincible.
