I got my hands on Kate Middleton's go-to wellies– here's how they really fare in wet weather

After what felt like forever, I finally got my hands on—specifically in the elusive black shade, which had been sold out for months. These boots have been on my radar for a while, and as someone who’s always trudging through muddy trails and braving soggy winter walks, I was beyond excited when they were finally back in stock. The hype around these boots is real, and I just had to see what all the fuss was about.

A lot of the hype around them comes from the fact has been spotted out wearing a variety of wellies from Le Chameau over the past decade or so. And since our Princess of Countryside Chic is known to sell out most items she wears, the stock levels of these boots tend to always be low.

So, naturally, the moment mine arrived, I pulled them on and headed out for a proper test run through some seriously waterlogged terrain. Not that I didn't take Kate's (silent) word for it, but right off the bat, they were a dream—warm, snug, and surprisingly lightweight for such sturdy boots. But are they really worth the £250 price? Here’s how they held up on my wet and windy adventures.

If you’re hunting for a pair of boots that will withstand more than one winter, are worth checking out. These boots are handmade by expert bootmakers and use a unique Chamolux rubber that’s super flexible and comfy, so they won’t stiffen up on you after a few hours. Plus, there’s a cosy neoprene lining to keep your feet warm when it gets chilly. The adjustable strap is handy for getting the perfect fit (no more squeezing into boots that are too small for thicker calves!), and the waterproof gusset means your feet will stay dry, even if you end up splashing through some puddles.

The sole has a dual-density design that absorbs shock and gives you good traction, and with anti-fatigue arch support, you can comfortably wear them for hours. In summary, if you like walking outdoors in all terrain and conditions, these have you covered (literally).

As I say, I've had my eye on these boots for ages, so when I saw the restock notification for the black colourway, I was quick off the mark. They are technically wellies but they look great paired with jeans, dresses and tights, and leggings. They scream countryside elegance, not plastic and weather-resistant.

Unlike other wellies that feel cold and rubbery, the lined insides keep my feet warm and dry, and they're so easy to walk in. My biggest plus point for the boots, however, is how easily they slip on and off. If you've ever tried getting your feet into a pair of wellies, then you'll likely know this isn't always the case.

I know they aren't the most affordable pair for all budgets, but boots are something you'll use so often throughout the year, so the cost per wear makes them a steal.

Saying that, if you still can't justify the price tag, I have a couple of other high street suggestions for you. Dune London's , while .
