Joao Felix sends pointed transfer message as biggest Chelsea hint yet dropped

Joao Felix has sent his former club Benfica a transfer plea amid uncertainty over his future at Chelsea.

The Portugal international, whose contract expires in June 2031, featured 20 times for Chelsea across all competitions this term, scoring seven goals and providing two assists.

Although Felix featured regularly, he averaged just 47 minutes per appearance.

In an effort to play more first-team football, Felix joined Milan on loan in January. He played 20 times across all competitions, scoring three goals.

This summer, Chelsea have already confirmed the signing of Dario Essugo, with the midfielder set to take over from Felix.

The decision points toward a possible transfer, with Felix potentially leaving Stamford Bridge for a third time.

The club is expected to explore both permanent and loan options in the coming months, and the 25-year-old has already made his feelings clear amid the situation.

When quizzed about his next potential move, Felix told Correio da Manha (via Record): "Everybody knows Benfica is the club of my heart. One day, I'll certainly return.

"I don't know if it's now or in the future. I have some ideas in my head - to stay in England or return to Benfica."

With his family in Portugal, Felix added: "My family is here. I feel like I need to be home and therefore, Benfica is one of the ideas in my head.

"Yes, Benfica is my home. One day I will return. I don't know if it's now or in a few years but if it happens now, I'll be happy."

Felix, who was previously coached by Bruno Lage, could be reunited in Lisbon. "He's a coach I know and who was important for my career and that could influence my decision," the midfielder added.

"Of course I'm looking forward to returning to Benfica and that's probably where I'm most inclined - whether it's Bruno Lage or another coach."

Chelsea paid £45million to sign the Portuguese star from Atletico Madrid in 2024.
