It is deeply troubling that the outcome of the is on a knife-edge.

Something has gone deeply wrong in America when millions believe deserves a second term in the White House.

He should have been disbarred from standing when convicted of felony and, in a separate civil trial, found liable for sexual abuse.

He should have been run out of the ­Republican Party when he tried to overturn the result of the 2020 election and, when that failed, instigated a rebellion that led his supporters to storm Capitol Hill.

Mr Trump has also given succour to white ­supremacists, distorted the truth, whipped up hatred against minorities and praised tyrants.

His ambivalence towards the plight of Ukraine and his wavering support for Nato should alarm anyone who cares about protecting freedom and democracy.

It is not just in this country’s interest that wins tomorrow. It is in the interest of all those who want to see decency, honesty and standards upheld in America.
