Victoria's Secret show slammed and accused of using concerning 'fake' detail

Send Push

fans were not impressed with the lingerie brand's fashion show last night and some even accused the production of using 'fake cheers'.

After a six-year absence, the once titillating event, which boasted a string of supermodels strutting down their stuff down the catwalk, wearing outlandish outfits, has been replaced by a "boring" substitute.

Featuring the likes of sisters Gigi and , Cher, as well as Kate Moss and her daughter, LIila, the New York show on Tuesday also included plus-size models and trans star, Alex Consani, as the brand tries to be more inclusive.

However, fans thought it was trying so hard to be "woke", it missed out on all the excitement. Taking to X to complain, one said: "Victoria’s Secret came back with the most boring show ever" while another wrote: "The Victoria’s Secret show looks so modern and boring now, I’m disappointed."

A third said: "This is so woke. Victoria Secret has yet to listen to our public demands. This is not the show we wanted. Everyone’s hair is flat, no extremely tall models, the entire production is different." Meanwhile, a fourth accused the show of pumping in "fake crowd noise" in a damning verdict.

Airing live on Amazon's Prime Video, the runway show was held at the Victoria's Secret flagship store in New York City, which saw the return of Brazilian models, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio as well as O.G herself, Tyra Banks.

It comes three years after the lingerie brand's controversial body-positive rebrand in 2021. Victoria's Secret's Angels were replaced by 'ambassadors' such as soccer star Megan Rapinoe. The company also axed its longtime CEO in the wake of falling sales and a blistering exposé that accused the company of misogyny, sexual harassment and bullying.

After being founded in 1977, the brand, named after Queen Victoria, launched hundreds of stores across America, but it was the luxe launch of Victoria’s Secret’s seriously sexy catwalk show at the Plaza Hotel in New York in 1995, which sent it stratospheric.

Broadcast on network TV to 185 countries, millions tuned in to see supermodels including Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Tyra Banks and Karen Mulder.

But, eventually the tide began to turn in recent years when the scantily-clad models were criticised in the wake of the #MeToo era. It was further plunged into controversy when marketing chief Ed Razek came under fire for saying that Victoria's Secret would not cast plus-sized or 'transexual' models because the show was meant to be a 'fantasy'.

However, last night transmodel, Alex Consani, proudly strutted her stuff to whoops and cheers from the live audience. The American model and influencer started modelling in 2015 and became the world's youngest transgender model at the time at age 12. After signing with IMG Models in 2019, she started using TikTok in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and became popular online for her comedic skits.
