Skoda Auto India has finally launched the much-awaited second-generation Kodiaq SUV, pricing it at Rs 46.89 lakh, ex-showroom. First showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year, the updated Kodiaq arrives with a significant design overhaul, a feature-rich cabin, and a stronger safety package. Bookings for the SUV have begun, and deliveries are slated to commence in May.
Second-gen Skoda Kodiaq : All you need to know
The new Kodiaq is offered in two trims: Sportline and the more premium Laurin & Klement (L&K). The latter is priced at Rs 48.69 lakh, ex-showroom. It enters a highly competitive segment, taking on rivals such as the Toyota Fortuner, Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian, and Hyundai Tucson.
Dimensionally, the SUV now measures 4.75 metres in length – 61 mm longer than the outgoing model – while width (1.8 m) and wheelbase (2.71 m) remain unchanged. It sits on the MQB37 platform and has a ground clearance of 155 mm.
On the outside, the Kodiaq features a hexagonal grille finished in matte dark chrome on the L&K and glossy black on the Sportline. It gets new split Matrix LED headlights with connected LED DRLs, C-shaped LED tail-lamps linked by an LED strip, reworked bumpers, roof rails, and redesigned 18-inch alloy wheels. Besides that, it also gets a sculpted bonnet and an illuminated front grille.
Inside, the cabin gets a complete makeover. A new layered dashboard layout features a large 13-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system and rotary climate control dials with embedded mini screens. Other highlights include a 10-inch digital instrument cluster with HUD, a two-spoke steering wheel, and ambient lighting with LED light strips.
Comfort features include three-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, 15W wireless phone charging with active cooling, and umbrella storage compartments in the front doors. The model also features heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats.
Second-gen Skoda Kodiaq: Engine & safety
Under the hood, the second-gen Kodiaq draws power from a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that makes 201 hp and 320 Nm of torque. This powerplant is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox and sends power to all four wheels via Skoda’s AWD system. The SUV delivers an ARAI-certified mileage of 14.86 kmpl.
On the safety front, Skoda has packed the Kodiaq with nine airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, hill descent control, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and an automatic park assist system.
