Ramanagara (Karnataka) [India], October 26 (ANI): Janata Dal (Secular) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy on Sunday hit back at Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, terming his recent remarks against former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy as "a matter of concern," and accused the Congress government of corruption and burdening the middle class through the ongoing property account transfer scheme in Bengaluru.
Addressing a public gathering in Channapatna, Nikhil said, "DCM DK Shivakumar calling Kumaranna (HD Kumaraswamy) an empty trunk is a matter of concern. The people of the state know what Kumaranna did during his tenure. The programs he initiated are still on people's minds. We will talk about his contributions during the elections."
Criticising the government's decision to convert B Khata properties to A Khata, Nikhil said, "Now the government is transferring properties from B account to A account. Around 7.5 lakh houses in Bengaluru are included in this. They have fixed a 100-day timeline. There is an SR value for each side, which will trouble middle-class people. With this decision, they are going to bring one lakh crore rupees in revenue. Whose stomachs are they filling by hitting the people?"
Calling the move a "big scam," Nikhil accused the government of "daylight robbery."
He said, "The government has no money to fill its financial gaps. They are robbing people in broad daylight, extorting money from them, and returning it in the name of guarantees."
Reacting to DK Shivakumar's remark that the JDS will win only 8-9 seats in the future, Nikhil said, "Who are they to predict our future? The people of the state will decide that. Are they astrologers? Let them predict -- we will respond when the time comes."
He further alleged that development under the Congress government has "completely stopped," claiming that legislators across parties have not received even basic grants.
"Development work in the state is zero. No MLA -- whether from BJP, JDS, or Congress -- has received even Rs 10 crore in grants. The contractors' money has not been released. There is no development during this government's tenure," Nikhil said.
Taking a jibe at the Congress's talk of a "November revolution," he said, "Let's see what kind of revolution they will bring. People of the state are becoming victims amid their struggle for power and positions."
Responding to DK Shivakumar's recent statement that he would provide land if HD Kumaraswamy brought industries, Nikhil said, "Oh, don't ask the state to give land first! Kumaranna has that capability. He will bring industries. He doesn't talk about power or wealth -- he is a great leader. We should bring industries and create jobs, not indulge in empty talk."
This statement comes after, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday challenged Union Minister Kumaraswamy to come for an open debate with proof instead of 'hit and run' allegations.
Speaking to reporters at the City Civil Court, he said, "If Kumaraswamy has evidence of his allegations, let him present it before the people of the state. He has been given a position, let him present the facts before the people instead of threatening with pen drives and things like that."
"Let him expose whatever he wants to; he has the Union government with him. DK Shivakumar is not the one who is scared by threats," he said.
Asked about Kumaraswamy's statement that they will form the government after 2.5 years, he said, "I have heard this many a time. His party has come down to 18 seats under his leadership, and it will fall to 8-9 seats in the next election." We will acquire land wherever Kumaraswamy wants if he is willing to bring in industries: DCM DK Shivakumar
Shivakumar also said he was willing to acquire land wherever Kumaraswamy wanted, provided he would bring in industries.
Speaking to reporters at Gandhi Garden in Yeshwanthpur assembly constituency, he said, "I have been calling him for an open debate. What corruption is happening in the B khata transfer? This is being done to benefit people. Currently, people don't get loans for B khata properties. Rectifying property documents is the 6th guarantee of our government. Kumaraswamy's government could not do this."
He was replying to Kumaraswamy's allegation of corruption in the B khata conversion. (ANI)
