The acclaimed actor recounted a late-night phone call with his cousin brother Sunil Kher, who resides in Jammu, one of the areas targeted in a wave of drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan.
On May 9, several regions in Jammu — including the civil airport, RS Pura, Samba, Arnia, and key military installations came under aerial assault. These strikes were reportedly in retaliation to India’s precision air raids on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, conducted under Operation Sindoor following the deadly Pahalgam attack.
Despite the alarming situation, Kher’s cousin Sunil responded to the chaos with calm and courage. Sharing the exchange on Instagram, Anupam posted a video sent by Sunil showing the aftermath of the strikes. In his caption, the The Kashmir Files actor described the conversation that followed, highlighting his cousin’s unshakable spirit.
In his post, Kher shared that the incident took place the previous night when his cousin Sunil Kher sent him a video from his home in Jammu. Concerned, he immediately called to check on Sunil and his family. Sunil, however, responded with calm pride, assuring him that they were safe in India, protected by the Indian Army and Mata Vaishno Devi. He urged Anupam not to worry, adding that they weren’t letting any missiles touch the ground, and ended with spirited chants in praise of the mother goddess and the motherland.

In a swift response, air defence units engaged and destroyed the drones midair. The Army later posted on X (formerly Twitter) and a part of its tweet read, "Pakistan’s blatant attempt to violate India’s sovereignty and endanger civilians is unacceptable. #IndianArmy will thwart enemy designs."
