After a spell of rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday evening, Delhi is expected to experience partly cloudy skies on Wednesday, with both maximum and minimum temperatures remaining near normal, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Cloudy Skies and Calm Winds for Wednesday
The maximum temperature is likely to hover between 31°C and 33°C, while the minimum may settle around 20°C to 22°C. During the morning, northeasterly winds are expected to blow at speeds of 5–10 kmph, gradually shifting to northwesterly by the afternoon. Wind speeds may rise to 10–15 kmph and continue through the evening and night, the IMD said.
Clearer Skies Ahead on Thursday
For Thursday, the weather office predicts a mainly clear sky, with temperatures once again ranging between 31°C and 33°C for the day and 20°C to 22°C at night. Winds will predominantly blow from the northwest direction at 5–10 kmph in the morning hours, providing relatively pleasant weather conditions for residents.
Tuesday’s Showers Bring Brief Relief
On Tuesday evening, rain lashed several parts of Delhi and the NCR, bringing a brief respite from the dry spell. Light showers were reported from Feroze Shah Road, Arjun Path near Vasant Vihar Flyover, RK Puram, and central Delhi, making roads slippery but also cooling the city down.
IMD Issues Orange Alert
The IMD has issued an orange alert for the national capital, warning of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph. The alert serves as a reminder for commuters and travellers to stay cautious amid potential disruptions.
Flight Operations May Be Affected
The Delhi Airport Authority has also warned passengers that adverse weather may impact flight operations.
“Due to inclement weather conditions in Delhi, flight operations at Delhi Airport may be impacted,” the authority said in a statement.
It added that on-ground teams are working to ensure a smooth experience for travellers and advised flyers to use the Delhi Metro or other public transport to reach the airport safely.
“Passengers are requested to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight updates,” the statement further read.
With fluctuating skies, changing wind patterns, and continued alerts, Delhi’s mid-week weather seems to be a blend of calm mornings and unpredictable evenings, reminding residents that autumn in the capital is as moody as ever.
