Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to kick off work on Innovation City project on September 26

The CM will launch the first phase of the project, billed by the government as the first of its kind in the country. The proposed city will cope up on 2000 acres of plot with the first phase designed on 500 acres.

The project will cost about Rs 40,000 crore and is expected to add about 100,000 jobs, Industries & Infrastructure minister MB Patil said.



The government has formed an advisory committee comprising eminent citizens such as Dr. Devi Shetty, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Prashanth Prakash, Thomas Osha, Ron Kimball, Mohandas Pai, and Nikhil Kamath, among others to monitor progress of the project. The city will be designed to accommodate a residential density of 100 people per acre, Patil added.


The KHIR-City is expected to make a significant contribution to the state's economy and boost exports, positioning Bengaluru for greater global prominence, he said. The city, he added, will be home to world-class universities, hospitals, innovative industries, and research institutions.
