In a bizarre incident in Navi Mumbai, four youths were detained by the police for creating a disturbance with a video reel that caused confusion among passers-by. The reel depicted one of the youths in the boot of a moving MUV, with only his hand hanging out, giving the impression that someone was either being kidnapped or that there was a dead body inside.
According to a TOI report, the incident occurred on Monday at around 6:30 pm when an MUV with a human hand hanging out of its boot was spotted on the road between Vashi and Sanpada railway stations. A motorist who witnessed the scene recorded the video and shared it on social media, quickly drawing attention.
The police, keeping an eye on social media content, launched a search operation for the MUV. Within two hours, the vehicle was located parked outside Haware Fantasia Mall near Sanpada railway station, and the youths were detained.
The four youths involved were identified as Minhaj Shaikh (25), Shahawar Shaikh (24), and Inzamam Shaikh (25), all from Koparkhairane, and Mohammad Shaikh (30) from Mira Road.
ACP (Crime) Ajay Landge explained that the youths claimed they had borrowed the MUV from a friend in Sakinaka, Mumbai, to attend a wedding in Navi Mumbai. They made the video to promote a laptop brand, as one of the accused owns a laptop rental and repair business in Haware Fantasia Mall.
The video was meant to show Minhaj Shaikh driving the MUV with his cousin in the boot, his hand hanging out, creating the illusion of a body inside. Two other youths on a bike followed the MUV, recording the stunt.
In the video, the youth in the boot eventually emerges and says, "I am still alive," promoting the laptop store.
Minhaj Shaikh, the driver, was booked under the Motor Vehicles Act for rash and negligent driving while making the video. The youths were released after receiving a warning and will have to pay the relevant penalty.
ACP Landge urged youngsters to avoid making such video reels that cause panic and harm to public safety, and to stay away from excessive digital content creation.
