Ranbir Kapoor to headline 'Dhoom 4', Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra not to return

Ranbir Kapoor fans got the best surprise on the ‘ Animal’ star’s 42nd birthday. If reports are to be believed, the ‘Animal’ actor has been roped to headline ‘ Dhoom 4’. This will be the fourth installment of the insanely successful ‘Dhoom’ franchise. Produced by Yash Raj Films, the ‘Dhoom’ franchise is known for being one of the most iconic action series.

Journalist and box-office tracker Himesh Mankad broke the news online. Taking to X, he wrote, “MEGA EXCLUSIVE: RANBIR KAPOOR LOCKED FOR DHOOM 4; ADITYA CHOPRA READY TO ROLL FROM 2025 END. #RanbirKapoor cast to carry forward the legacy of India's biggest franchise, #Dhoom4. Film goes on floors by 2025-end once #RK wraps up #Ramayana-Details! #YRF..” read his tweet.

A source close to the film production behemoth told Pinkvilla that just like his predecessors Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and John Abraham. Ranbir will essay the role of the antagonist in the film. ““The discussions with Ranbir have been going on for the longest time. He had always shown interest to be a part of Dhoom 4 on hearing the basic idea, and is now finally confirmed to lead the franchise. Adi Chopra feels that RK is the ideal choice to carry forward the Dhoom legacy,” the source added.



Abhishek Bachchan & Uday Chopra Not To Return?

Right from the inception of the series, ‘Dhoom’ has been synonymous with the sullen and dutiful Inspector Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and Ali, his wisecracking sidekick (Uday Chopra). However, the two characters will not be returning to the franchise.


“Two big heroes from the younger generation will come on board to play the duo of cop buddies in Dhoom 4. Now that the core storyboard is locked, the team will proceed to the casting stage. Dhoom 4 will not just be the biggest Dhoom film, but also a tentpole feature film of global standard from Indian Cinema,” the source revealed.

On the work front, Kapoor was last seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s action thriller ‘Animal’ The movie went on to earn almost Rs 1,000 crore at the box-office. He will next be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ opposite Sai Pallavi.

The 'Dhoom' series kicked off in 2004 when Aditya Chopra collaborated with John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, and Uday Chopra on a film directed by Sanjay Gadhvi. It brought a new narrative style to the action genre, with John playing a suave anti-hero. The excitement grew in 2006 when Hrithik Roshan joined as the villain in Dhoom 2, and the franchise expanded further with Aamir Khan’s role in 2013. This success has sparked continuous speculation about the cast for Dhoom 4.
