Two more tropical storms develop over the Atlantic: Here's what's ahead?

Send Push
Tropical Storm Nadine is nearing landfall in Belize as it moves westward on Saturday. This system, which has been on the radar since before Hurricane Milton's landfall, is anticipated to weaken by Sunday morning. Heavy rain and tropical storm conditions are spreading over Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), tropical storm warnings continue for both Belize and Mexico, with forecasts indicating that flash flooding is likely. Some locations may see rainfall totals of up to 12 inches, prompting authorities to warn residents to prepare for potential evacuations.

Nadine's Expected Impact
As Tropical Storm Nadine approaches, it is expected to cause significant rainfall and flooding in the affected regions. Meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation, noting that tropical storm conditions will persist through Saturday afternoon. Residents in Belize and Mexico are advised to take precautions to safeguard themselves and their properties.

Tropical Storm Oscar Develops
In a related development, Tropical Storm Oscar has formed near the Turks and Caicos Islands, leading to the issuance of tropical storm warnings for the islands and the Southeastern Bahamas. The government of Cuba has also issued warnings for the provinces of Guantanamo, Holguin, and Las Tunas, alongside a tropical storm watch for Camaguey. The NHC reported that Oscar is expected to continue westward before being pulled into a frontal boundary that will steer it north and east, moving it away from the United States.

Tropical Storm Oscar is developing in a favorable environment. FOX 13 meteorologist Valerie Mills noted, "it is in a very favorable setup" north of Puerto Rico. However, she cautioned that as the storm approaches Florida, it will face "hostile winds" and "strong wind shear" that will "battle this storm." Oscar has a 24-hour window for potential strengthening before it moves into areas of increased wind shear and drier air that could hinder its development.

Rainfall and Future Outlook
Oscar is projected to bring heavy rainfall, with totals reaching up to 6 inches for the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, and Cuba before it clears into the Pacific Ocean by Monday. As of Saturday, Oscar is located approximately 190 miles (306 km) east-southeast of the southeastern Bahamas and about 495 miles east of Camaguey city in Cuba, packing maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour.

Calm Weather for Florida
For residents in Florida, the current tropical weather forecasts show no signs of impending storms, offering a welcome relief following the turmoil caused by Hurricanes Milton and Helene. While the tropical systems of Nadine and Oscar are noteworthy developments, meteorologists assure that they do not pose a threat to the continental U.S. at this time.

As the Atlantic hurricane season continues, it remains essential for residents in affected areas to stay informed and prepared as weather patterns evolve and further updates emerge.
