An Indian software professional working in New York, earning approximately $105,000 (₹88 lakh) annually, sparked curiosity on social media when asked if she’d consider moving back to India for the same salary. Piyush Monga, the creator behind the Instagram page salaryscale, shared a video capturing this conversation. In the clip, he asks the woman whether she’d return to India if her income remained unchanged.

Her quick response—“I would go back to India”—left viewers surprised, generating over 150,000 views and hundreds of likes. About her salary she says, "It's good for the basics but I am always looking for more."

"Back to India? Is this for real? Times are crazy #reverseimmigration," Piyush Monga wrote in the caption

The woman, who works in supply chain management for a pharmaceutical company, has five years of experience. Despite her six-figure income, she admits that salary in the US only covers basic needs, and she’s actively aiming for more. She also revealed her educational background—holding a bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering followed by a master’s in supply chain analytics.

Her long-term plans
When asked about her long-term plans, she mentioned her interest in pursuing an MBA. However, she made it clear that she’d only proceed if she secured sponsorship from a company, stating she wouldn’t fund it herself.

"I would go for sponsorship, not spend money myself," she said.

Her willingness to return to India puzzled many, as moving to the U.S. is often seen as a career milestone. Yet, the woman’s pragmatic approach to career growth seemed to resonate with some.

As a parting tip, she recommended earning certifications like Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) if someone already has a degree in supply chain management. She also recommends aiming project management skills if someone is interested in considering an MBA path.
