The Ministry of Railways has approved the final location survey for a proposed railway line in Sikkim , aiming to enhance connectivity in the northeastern state. The new line is planned to run from Melli to Dentam, passing through Jorethang and Legship. The survey, to be conducted by the Northeast Frontier Railway, has been sanctioned at a cost of INR 2.25 crore.

The project's final placement, engineering design, and cost estimation will be guided by the comprehensive technical and feasibility insights obtained from the final location survey. It is anticipated that work tenders pertaining to the survey's implementation would be released soon.
