Many forms of worship of Lord Shiva are described in the Sanatan tradition, out of which the worship of Parthiv Shivling is considered to be the highest. This worship in the month of Sawan provides mental, physical, and spiritual strength to a person. This is a means by which the seeker can get the special blessings of Lord Shiva and bring happiness, peace, and prosperity in life.

Mythological basis of Parthiv Shivling worship
The worship of Parthiv Shivling is mentioned in many contexts in the scriptures and Puranas. It is believed that Lord Shri Ram had performed the earthen worship of Lord Shiva before conquering Lanka. In Kaliyug, Kushmanda Rishi's son Mandap first established the Parthiv Shivling and worshipped Shiva, after which this tradition became popular among the people. According to Linga Purana, Shanidev also worshipped Lord Shiva by making Parthiv Shivling in Kashi, due to which he got more strength than his father Suryadev.
Benefits of worshipping Parthiv Shivling
It is mentioned in Linga Purana and Shiv Puran that the devotee who worships Parthiv Shivling with devotion and regularly gets happiness, peace, fame, and wealth in life. Sins are destroyed, and the path to salvation becomes easy. Couples who are not getting the happiness of children get special benefits of worshipping Parthiv Shivling in Sawan. Similarly, girls whose marriage is getting delayed can get a suitable life partner by doing this worship. It is also said that the fear of untimely death also goes away with this worship.
Method of making Parthiv Shivling
To make Parthiv Shivling, take pure soil from any river, pond, or pilgrimage place. Mix Ganga water, Panchamrit, Gomay (cow dung), and ash in it and knead it. If possible, the soil of the Ganga River is considered the best. Make the Shivling face east or north while chanting Shiva mantras. Keep in mind that the height of the Shivling should not be more than 12 fingers (about 9 inches).
Method of worship and materials
First, bathe the Shivling with Gangajal or pure water. Then anoint it with Panchamrit, which includes milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar. After this, offer Belpatra, Dhatura, Aak, white flowers etc. Light incense and perform the Aarti of Lord Shiva and chant the mantra "Om Namah Shivaya". Finally, apply tilak with sandalwood and offer naivedya.

The month of Shravan is very dear to Lord Shiva. By worshipping the earthen Shivling in this month, Lord Shiva is quickly pleased and fulfills the wishes of the devotees. This sadhana is considered to be very effective despite being simple, due to which the seeker gets both worldly and spiritual siddhis.
