Anuparna Roy has become the first Indian to win this award. She has won this award for her film 'Songs of Forgotten Trees'. Anuparna Roy won this award in the Orizzonti section at the 82nd Venice Film Festival.
This category focuses on new trends in cinema and includes first-time creations, young talents, indie films, and uncommon films that leave a big impact on people despite being less popular. Anuparna Roy's film 'Songs of Forgotten Trees' was also the only Indian film to be selected in this prestigious category. These awards were announced by French filmmaker Julia Ducourno. She was the head of the Orizzonti jury. Anuparna Roy went on stage in a white cotton saree in a typical Bengali look.
The director gave credit for the victory to Anurag Kashyap.
Anuparna Roy thanked Anurag Kashyap after winning the Best Director Award for her film 'Songs of Forgotten Trees'. Anurag Kashyap is the producer of the film. Anuparna said that Anurag supported her and her film from the very beginning and expressed faith in the concept of the film. The director said, 'I want to thank Anurag Kashyap, my producer, my cast, my crew, and all those who supported me. This award is dedicated to all those people.'
Anuparna remembered Palestinian children
After winning the award, Anuparna also remembered the Palestinian children in Gaza who are dying every day. She says that her heart aches every day for those children who sacrifice their lives in war.
