The dismantling of the historic Elphinstone Road Over Bridge (ROB), a century-old structure built in 1913 during the British era, began on Friday as part of a broader infrastructure overhaul linked to the ambitious Sewri -Worli Elevated Connector project of MMRDA. The estimated cost of this Double Decker Bridge is Rs. 168 crore.
The completion period of the Railway portion is around 1 year after dismantling of existing ROB. According to sources, authorities are targeting to complete the dismantling and reconstruction work in two years.
Originally slated for completion within 20 days, the schedule has now been extended until July 10, 2025, due to constraints around railway traffic blocks. The dismantling of the approach roads — excluding the section directly above railway tracks — is expected to conclude by May 30, 2025.
This phase alone involves the removal of around 16,316 cubic meters of solid structures using heavy equipment, including two Poclain.
