Mhow (Madhya Pradesh): Some tourists visiting the popular Patalpani heritage trek site in Mhow were reportedly robbed on Monday afternoon by a gang of masked miscreants. A gold mangalsutra and cash were looted from a couple and two friends, respectively.
According to initial information, Jaideep Gaur, who works at a resort in the Rau area, had come to Patalpani for an outing with his woman friend. At the same time, Vikas Bhargav, a resident of Bhatkhedi, was visiting with his wife. They were all exploring the area near Tunnel No. 2 on the heritage trek around 3 pm when the incident occurred.
Seven to eight young men, their faces covered with cloth, approached the tourists from the direction of the Patalpani Railway Station. They first targeted Jaideep and his friend, attempting to assault them with sticks and forcibly snatching ?500 from Jaideep.
The assailants then moved towards Vikas and his wife, who were sitting near the trek path. Vikas said the group surrounded them and misbehaved with his wife before snatching her gold mangalsutra, weighing around 3 grams, along with ?1,400 in cash.
The victims informed the Badgonda Police about the incident. Station in-charge Prakash Vaskale and his team rushed to the scene and took the victims to the crime spot to investigate further. Preliminary inquiries and eyewitness accounts indicated that the location falls under the jurisdiction of Mhow Police Station.
Subsequently, Mhow police, led by station in-charge Rahul Sharma, arrived at Patalpani and took over the investigation. The victims were again escorted to the scene for detailed questioning and evidence collection.
The police have detained a few suspects for questioning and are continuing their investigation.
