Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A man was made to do sit-ups and apologise in public by Indore police for being involved in illegal extortion activities on Tuesday.
The incident took place under the supervision of TI Tilak Karole, who led the police team in taking out a public procession of the accused.
The man named Rakesh Rokde was made to apologize in the Azad Nagar police in Indore for his involvement in illegal extortion activities.
According to the police, Rakesh, son of Gorewal Rokde and a resident of Shanti Nagar Musakhedi, had been involved in several extortion cases. He was also found committing crimes outside his local area, violating the area boundary rule, also known as “brand over.”
After his arrest, the police took him back to the area where he had been creating trouble and made him do sit-ups as a form of public punishment. Rakesh repeatedly apologized with folded hands and held his ears in front of the crowd, promising not to repeat such actions.
The police said this public act was meant to send a strong message against criminal behavior in the locality.
Criminal cases are registered against Rakesh in Azad Nagar and other police stations as well. Police say that this action was taken to maintain the fear of law in the area.
Attacked with knife when discount was not given at wine shop
In Rajendra Nagar police station area, late Sunday night, miscreants attacked two employees standing outside a wine shop with a knife. It is alleged that the youth were demanding 50% discount on the liquor bottle, and when refused, they committed the crime.
Victim Mukesh Khatke said that he is a salesman at a wine shop located near Ahirkhedi. About 10 days ago, four youths came to the shop and had a dispute over discount. They threatened him by claiming to be Ramesh Banjara's henchmen and left.
On Sunday night, after the shop was closed, Mukesh and his friend Pawan Patil were returning on a bike, when four youths came on two bikes and attacked Mukesh with a knife on his leg and back. When Pawan came to rescue him, he was also stabbed twice in his leg. While leaving, the attackers threatened that "if discounts are not given in future, the consequences will be worse."
Hearing the screams, nearby employee Pankaj and others reached the spot and took both the injured to Choithram Hospital, where their treatment is going on. Police have registered a case against the unknown accused and started investigation.
