Mohali, April 5: In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old boy identified as Abhijeet died by suicide on Saturday (April 5) morning after jumping from the third floor of a mall in Punjab's Mohali. The incident occurred at the Bestech Square Mall and the class 12 student was caught on the CCTV camera installed at the mall while jumping from the third floor of the mall. The boy was reportedly suffering from depression due to which he took the extreme step of ending his life.
Incident Captured on CCTV
As per reports, CCTV footage shows Abhijeet walking alone near the glass railing on the third floor of the mall at 9:14 AM. He seemed to hesitate a couple of times, walking away and returning. At 9:19 AM, he finally took the extreme step. He first walked quickly to the railing, climbed it and jumped.

Police Action
According to a senior police officer, they received a call at 9:30 AM about a boy attempting suicide at the mall. The police team reached the mall within five to eight minutes and Abhijeet was taken to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the hospital informed them a few hours later that Abhijeet had passed away.
Boy Had Been Battling Depression
Abhijeet’s father told the police that his son had been suffering from depression and was going through mental issues. He was a Class 12 student and the middle child in the family, with one elder and one younger brother.
Why Was He at the Mall Early Morning?
When asked about his presence in the mall so early, officials said that the food court and multiplex open early and the mall staff confirmed that Abhijeet had purchased a bottle of water before the incident.
Investigation Underway
The tragic incident is shocking for the family and people living in the area. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and continuing the investigation to understand more about what led to this unfortunate event.
