Uttar Pradesh has recorded significant growth in women's workforce participation, with latest data showing 34.65% female employment in the construction sector. The state's e-Shram portal reflects this trend, with women constituting 53% of registered unorganized workers.
Industrial reports indicate 183,276 women currently employed in registered factories statewide. Policy changes include amended labor regulations permitting night shifts for women and 24/7 work options in commercial establishments. The state government has reinforced equal pay mandates across all sectors.
The Labor Department's quarterly report highlights increased female enrollment in skill development programs, particularly in traditionally male-dominated fields. While construction leads with 34.65% women workers, the textile and food processing industries follow at 28% and 22% respectively.
Critics note implementation challenges remain, particularly in ensuring workplace safety for night shifts and addressing wage gaps in informal sectors.
However, the rising registration numbers on government portals suggest growing formalization of women's employment. The state plans to expand childcare facilities at worksites and introduce targeted transport solutions to further boost participation rates.
