Mumbai: The high-profile extortion case of NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) leader and Baba Siddiqui's son, Zeeshan Siddiqui, has been handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti Extortion Cell for further investigation. The probe, which was initially being conducted by Bandra Police, will now be taken forward by the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Crime Branch.

A senior Crime Branch officer confirmed that the investigation has officially been transferred from Bandra Police and that the Anti-Extortion Cell will now take over the case. Zeeshan Siddiqui had received three threatening emails on April 21, in which the sender demanded Rs 10 crore in extortion and warned of causing him harm similar to what was done to his father, Baba Siddiqui.

According to sources, the threatening emails were sent using a VPN network, and the IP address has been traced to a server located somewhere near the United States. However, the exact location continues to change, indicating attempts by the sender to mask their identity. Investigators have not yet found any link between the email sender and any known gang.

Preliminary leads suggest that the person behind the emails could be either mentally unstable or a mischief-maker. The search for the accused is ongoing.

As the investigation gains momentum under the Crime Branch, authorities are also working to verify whether the threats are credible or part of a larger conspiracy.
