Salt is one such thing without which the taste of most food items becomes bad, however, excessive intake of salt can cause many health problems. So how much salt is considered too much? Famous nutritionist Anjali Mukherjee has talked about this in a video shared on her Instagram account.

These foods contain more salt

Anjali Mukherjee said, "Let's discuss a tasty topic like salt and how much of it do you need in a day?" The nutritionist emphasizes that in the last few years our potassium intake has decreased and sodium intake has increased. She says that sodium is usually found in salty snacks, farsan, soups, chutneys, pickles and salad dressings, which increases sodium intake.

How much salt to eat?

Anjali Mukherjee tells us how much salt we should eat. She says, "Every adult needs about 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day, which means one teaspoon of sodium chloride, which is salt."

Potassium will balance it
The nutritionist further focuses on potassium and explains how it is present in fruits and vegetables. She adds, "And every person needs 3,800 milligrams of potassium a day, which you will get from 400 grams of vegetables and about 100 grams of fruits. So if you eat this many fruits and vegetables a day, you will get enough potassium throughout the day." Finally, she emphasizes, "So the balance of sodium and potassium is very important."

How to reduce salt intake?
Let's know how you can reduce salt intake in daily life,

1. Packaged food items often taste more delicious due to high amount of salt, which can be harmful for our health. To avoid this, stay away from eating processed food and instead eat snacks like fruits, nuts and seeds.
2. Pickles can enhance the taste of your food, but it is important to consume it in limited quantities. Spicy pickles contain high amounts of trans fat and sodium, which can be harmful to your health.
