After nearly three decades, Adam Sandler is back as the hilarious golfer Happy Gilmour, in a sequel film which launched onNetflix last week. Fans have been rushing to watch the much-anticipated second film - and they have been sharing their reactions.
The original film, starring Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller and the late Carl Weathers, became a staple at teenage sleepovers upon its release in 1996. Fans were convinced they would never see the day the rough-around-the-edges golfer would make a comeback, but Happy Gilmore 2 sees its eponymous character return to golf for the first time since defeating Shooter McGavin all those years ago.
There are some fantastic cameos in the film. Golfing legends John Daly, Paige Spiranac, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris all make appearances in the movie, released on July 25.

There are also cameos from Oppenheimer's Benny Safdie Oppenheimer, Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny, and professional wrestlers MJF and Becky Lynch. NFL star Travis Kelce also appears, along with comedic stars Jon Lovitz, Rob Schneider and Steve Buscemi, and musician Post Malone.
Netflix shared a clip of the new film on X and said: "Happy Gilmore 2 is now playing." People rushed to share their thoughts.
Some who haven't watched it yet shared their concerns, as one said: "Why am I afraid this is going to suck?" Another added: "Have low expectations. Hopefully I'm wrong."
But others rushed to reassure fans of the original film that it is worth a watch. One individual said: "Just watched. 10/10." "Loved every second of it," commented another.
One other wrote: "Just stayed up all night to watch before I have to go to work. It was very, very good. As a Shooter fan, thank you Adam Sandler."
Another said: "Been looking forward to it for a while. And it certainly didn’t disappoint. It keeps the same high-calibre level of creativity that only the man himself, Adam Sandler can deliver. And the amount of names that take roles is phenomenal."
One other was surprised by how much they enjoyed it. They said: "Genuinely one of the funniest films I have seen in a long time. It’s a nostalgic wonder and I love the fact that it keeps the 90’s humour alive! I almost want to say they don’t make films like this anymore but I’m obviously wrong."
Sharing a detailed review, one other summarised: "Was surprised I actually enjoyed it. Was worried it was going to just be a rehash of the original and its not."
They added: "It's a completely new story with great call backs and great cameos. I'll say it started a little weak but got 10x better as it went on. Is it better than the original? No of course not but it's still very enjoyable."
Happy Gilmore 2 is available to stream on Netflix.
