Black business of Bengal's silver in Bihar, when police reached the hotel eyes were wide open

Silver smuggling has increased rapidly in Bihar as Diwali approaches. Smugglers are bringing silver consignments illegally to Bihar and selling them here in connivance with jewelery traders. One such case has been revealed in Katihar. Here the police raided a hotel and arrested four smugglers. The police recovered silver worth about 70 to 80 lakh rupees from them. These smugglers were preparing to sell the silver on the occasion of Dhanteras.

According to Katihar police, two days ago, there was information about a big deal of silver in the city. In this sequence, information was received that some people were staying in a hotel in the city with a large amount of jewelry in their backpacks. On this information, the police formed a team and raided the old hotel located on Rajendra Prasad Road. During this time four people were staying in a room. On the basis of suspicion, the police detained them and interrogated them. After this, when their bags were searched, a consignment of 66.195 kg of silver was found in it.

The silver recovered from the accused was in the form of jewelry. According to the police, the estimated value of this jewelry in the open market is about 70 to 80 lakh rupees. During interrogation, the accused told the police that they had brought the consignment of silver from Nadia in West Bengal to Katihar in Bihar and had planned to sell it here in collaboration with local jewelry traders. The police asked the accused for the documents of such a large quantity of silver, but the accused could not show these documents.

According to Sadar DSP Abhijeet Kumar, the arrested smugglers have been identified as Sanu Biswas, Gautam Biswas, Vijay Biswas, and Ajit Ghosh, residents of Halalpur in Dhantala police station area of Nadia district of Bengal. During police interrogation, the accused also revealed the names of those local traders who do illegal business of gold and silver jewelry. Along with arresting the accused, the police have started further investigation in this case. At the same time, the Income Tax and GST departments have also been informed of this matter.
