In the poem 'Prem Sagar' based on the life of Shri Krishna, it is mentioned that Shri Krishna had 8 queens. They are called Ashtabhaaryas.

Krishna's first queen was Rukmani. She is also said to be an incarnation of Lakshmi. Apart from them, there were Satyabhama, Jambavati, Kalindi, Mitravinda, Nagnajiti (Satya), Bhadra, and Lakshmana (Madra).

You must have also heard the story of Lord Krishna's 16,000 wives which is associated with Narakasura. We are going to give you information about this.

Narakasura was a powerful demon who had imprisoned 16,100 girls. These girls were from royal families. Krishna killed Narakasura and freed all 16,100 girls.

At that time, it was believed that any woman who was once imprisoned by a man was not accepted by society. Those women told Shri Krishna that no one would accept them now.

To save them from social humiliation and injustice, Krishna married all those 16,100 girls so that they get respect in the society. This act of Krishna shows his compassion and love. Krishna took this step to protect and respect women.
