Attack on Hindu Temple in Brampton Sparks Outrage and Condemnation Across Canada

A Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada, faced a violent attack on Sunday, reportedly carried out by Khalistani extremists. The Hindu Sabha Temple incident, shared widely on social media by the Hindu Canadian Foundation, raised serious concerns as it targeted children, women, and men, according to the foundation’s post.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the attack, emphasizing the importance of religious freedom for all Canadians. “The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable,” Trudeau shared in a social media post. He thanked the Peel Regional Police for their prompt response and affirmed the right of every Canadian to practice their faith safely.

Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre also condemned the attack, calling it "completely unacceptable" and vowing to unite Canadians to end such violence. In a statement, he underscored that every Canadian should be free to worship without fear.

Toronto MP Kevin Vuong highlighted Canada’s growing issues with radical elements and expressed disappointment in the country’s leaders for failing to protect Hindu, Christian, and Jewish communities from such attacks. MP Chandra Arya also voiced concern, stating that the attack represented an escalation in extremist violence within Canada, and called for Hindu-Canadians to demand greater accountability from political leaders.

This incident adds to a troubling pattern of religious intolerance in Canada. In July, another Hindu temple, the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton, was similarly vandalized, and last year, a Hindu temple in Windsor faced defacement with anti-India graffiti, sparking a wave of condemnation from the Indian community and Canadian leaders alike.
