India Sends 30 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Palestine Amid Ongoing Conflict

Send Push

New Delhi: In response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Middle East, India has dispatched a significant aid consignment to Palestine. This first shipment includes 30 tons of essential supplies, such as medicines, surgical equipment, dental products, general medical items, and high-energy biscuits.

Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, announced the aid on X, stating, "India sends humanitarian assistance for the people of Palestine through UNRWA." He detailed that the consignment, which departed recently, encompasses a wide range of crucial medical and food supplies.

Concerns over food security have intensified, particularly in northern Gaza, where the World Food Programme (WFP) warned that supplies are running dangerously low. On October 12, the WFP highlighted the dire situation, mentioning, "Escalating violence in northern Gaza is having a disastrous impact on food security. No food aid has entered the north since October 1. It is unclear how long WFP's remaining food supplies will last."

The United Nations has also renewed its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza, emphasizing the need for the release of hostages, an end to the displacement of Palestinians, and unrestricted humanitarian aid delivery. Tor Wennesland, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, expressed deep concern, stating, "The nightmare in Gaza is intensifying. Horrifying scenes are unfolding in the northern Strip amidst conflict, relentless Israeli strikes, and an ever-worsening humanitarian crisis."

Last month, UNRWA described the living conditions in Gaza as "inhumane," revealing that accumulating waste and leaking sewage have created a health crisis. The agency called for an immediate ceasefire, stressing that families are left to live amidst foul odors and the looming threat of disease.
