Israel has escalated its military operations, targeting Hezbollah and hitting a residential area in Beirut for the first time. The airstrikes have claimed several high-profile lives, including Hezbollah leaders, amid ongoing tensions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains opposed to a ceasefire. Here are the top updates from the conflict:

Israel's airstrike on a residential building in central Beirut marked the first such strike in the city since the conflict began on October 7, 2023. The strike killed two people.

The targeted area is a predominantly Sunni district, known for its busy streets lined with shops and residential buildings. Previous Israeli attacks mainly hit southern Beirut, where Hezbollah has a stronghold.

The recent airstrike came shortly after other Israeli attacks across Lebanon. Hezbollah's command structure has suffered significant losses, with seven commanders killed in the past week.

Over the weekend, dozens of people were killed, including Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah, in a major blow to the Iran-backed group.

On Sunday, Israel's military claimed it killed Nabil Kaouk, the deputy head of Hezbollah's Central Council. Hezbollah confirmed his death, marking the loss of another high-ranking official.

Senior Hezbollah commander Ali Karaki was killed in a Friday airstrike, which also took the life of Nasrallah. Israel reports that more than 20 Hezbollah militants have been killed, including a commander responsible for Nasrallah's security.

Lebanon's health ministry reported that over 105 people have died across the country due to Israeli airstrikes.

In two strikes near Sidon, about 45 kilometers south of Beirut, 32 people were killed, according to Lebanese authorities.

Another Israeli strike in the Baalbek Hermel region killed 21 people and injured more than 47.

On September 30, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) called for a ceasefire and de-escalation of the conflict, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and prevent further escalation.

Meanwhile, Israel also struck Houthi targets in Yemen, including power plants and seaport facilities in Hodeida, in response to a recent attack on Israel.
