Know which river is under the Himalayas

Send Push

The Himalayas hold many countless mysteries in themselves, but do you know that a huge water reservoir can be hidden beneath the Himalayas? It is said that the Himalayas were also formed from a sea. Millions of years ago, there was a large sea in the Himalayan region, called the Tethys Sea. This sea was spread here at a time when the Earth's tectonic plates were constantly moving. As these plates collided with each other, this sea came to an end and gradually the Himalayas were formed.

Surprisingly, some scientists and researchers believe that some part of the Tethys Sea may still be hidden under the Himalayas. The proof of this is the remains of marine creatures found in the rocks of the Himalayas. These fossils are proof that there was once a sea at this place. The geological structures found in the Himalayan mountains also indicate that this area was once under the sea.

This sea is also mentioned in local stories and myths. Some people believe that some amount of the Tethys Sea may still be present under the Himalayas, which spread between Gondwanaland and Laurasia millions of years ago. The Tethys Sea was a shallow and long sea, and it was this sea that caused the formation of mountains like the Himalayas and the Alps. It is also worth noting that the Tethys Sea separated India from Asia about 225 million years ago. When the Indian tectonic plate collided with the Asian plate, this sea ended and the Himalayas were born from that collision.
