Due to today's lifestyle and poor eating habits, people are falling prey to many diseases. Especially those who do desk jobs have to sit in one place for a long time, which has a bad effect on the body. One of these problems is - Dead Butt Syndrome, which has become quite common nowadays. If you also sit for 8 hours or more a day, then you need to know about this problem.
What is dead butt syndrome?
Dead butt syndrome occurs when the largest muscles of the body, i.e. the hip muscles, stop working due to prolonged sitting. In this condition, these muscles become inactive and it is also called gluteal amnesia. This means that the body forgets to activate these muscles. When the muscles of the hips do not work, their workload starts falling on other parts of the body, such as the back, knees and legs. This puts more pressure on these parts and the problem of pain starts.
Symptoms of Dead Butt Syndrome
Muscle numbness: Sitting for long periods of time can cause numbness or pain in the muscles of the hips. Sharp pain: In some cases, the pain can be quite sharp, spreading from the hips to the knees and back. This pain may feel like sciatica. Weakness: There is a loss of strength in the muscles of the hips and glutes. Change in walking pattern: The pain may change the way you walk and cause difficulty in walking. Pain increases when lying down: The pain may increase when you lie down on the side where the hip pain is.
Treatment of Dead Butt Syndrome
Take breaks: Avoid sitting continuously for long periods of time. Take breaks in between and stand up and walk a bit. Exercise: Do exercises like squats, jumping jacks. Lie down flat on the ground and do some light exercises. Increase movement: Move your body as much as you can. Walk every half hour or do standing stretching. Glute exercises: Do special stretching and gluteal exercises to strengthen the muscles of the hips.
