Fans of Death in Paradise appear to have discovered the ideal successor for their favourite BBC drama, set to return later this year.
Ludwig, featuring David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin, has been praised by audiences as "the best series from the BBC in years", with demands for a further instalment.
The six-part series is broadcast weekly, with all episodes accessible on BBC iPlayer. In the captivating series, Peep Show's David plays the socially awkward crossword puzzle creator John Ludwig Taylor.
John's secluded life is completely upended following the mysterious vanishing of his identical twin brother, a law enforcement officer.
Urged by his brother's wife, Lucy, played by Line Of Duty and Motherland actress Anna Maxwell Martin, John assumes his sibling's identity in an attempt to find him. The season one finale left viewers on tenterhooks with a shocking revelation about John's missing brother, just as John and Lucy uncover a significant breakthrough clue, reports .
Discussing the possibility of another series, David told the Mirror: "Yes, that's certainly our hope that it will carry on. Fingers crossed. Of course, you just hope that people enjoy the first series."
However, it appears the series has piqued the interest of Death in Paradise fans, with some considering it the perfect substitute for their cherished detective drama.
Fans of the beloved series Death in Paradise have taken to a Facebook fan page to express their excitement and opinions about similar shows. One enthusiast gushed: "#Ludwig really is #DeathInParadise but in Cambridge. Perfect afternoon telly. And I can't laud Anna Maxwell Martin enough."
Another chimed in with praise for the show's easy viewing, saying: "It is easy watching like Death in Paradise except it is Cambridge. and if you love Beethoven, it is interesting to hear the music reworked."
Meanwhile, another viewer gave a nod to a new crime series featuring David Mitchell: "The new David Mitchell crime thing is actually alright, lads. Might fill the void left by Death In Paradise," while yet another fan drew parallels between the two shows: "For fans of Death in Paradise comes another murder-solving series. David Mitchell being David Mitchell!"
One more fan shared their review after watching Ludwig on BBC: "I have just finished watching Ludwig on BBC. I think it's excellent and did remind me of Death in Paradise a lot," adding that it's "funny, interesting and some really bonkers solutions to cases."
In related news, the much-anticipated return of Death in Paradise is set for 2025 with a fresh face leading the cast. Don Gilet will be taking over from Ralf Little as the new DI of Saint Marie.
Gilet expressed his enthusiasm for his latest role, stating: "Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands.
"This is a big show, with a big heart, and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled, and dedicated.
"Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool, or an ice-cold beer, whichever happens to be closer at the time."
Ludwig is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
