This pretty town is one that is located next to a beautiful seafront promenade - but tourists and locals say its parking situation is one of the worst. A pub landlord has said his business is losing customers due to how bad the situation really is.
Stewart Nisbet, bar manager of The Marine on Marine Parade, Saltburn, in North Yorkshire, has been at the helm of the pub for 35 years. He spoke of the parking problems in the area, which are creating issues for locals and tourists alike. The town was known for its free parking, where tourists can park their caravans and cars for days. Now double yellow lines have been painted on some roads leading to complaints from locals.
The local authority considered a ban on motorhome parking, on Glenside and Marine Parade overnight, but did not enforce it after receiving backlash from the public.
Stewart said: "A lot of people travel here, and we lose customers because there's no parking spaces for them. That knackers it up. More and more people come. Parking wise, it's absolute crackers. Parking is the world's worst, here. Especially for the locals, if you go shopping and come back, there's no way I can get back outside my house."
"Now, I don't want to be carrying my shopping a hundred yards," added the seasoned bar hand, reports Yorkshire Live. He says limited spots were offered to locals but that these were not sufficient.
Stewart isn't the only person to find an issue with the parking in the area. A reporter from Yorkshire Live took a trip to the town to see how difficult parking in the area is. She said: "Navigating my car down the winding bank to the seafront and finding a parking spot proved to be a bit of a challenge.
"Fortunately, I managed to find a spot at Cat Nab car park, although at £7 for 3 hours, it was one of the priciest places I've parked in Yorkshire. Surprisingly, it was the only place with available spaces even at 9 am - which is crazy!"
Locals often find issue with parking in the area, Yorkshire Live reports: "Some residents expressed concerns about the influx of tourists making it challenging to park near their homes and raised worries about emergency services accessing the narrower lanes."

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has provided insights into the introduction of yellow lines along back alleys to homes, and updates on the motorhome situation.
The council's spokesperson said: "The yellow lines were implemented in March 2025. This was requested by local members and residents to improve access to residences and help prevent obstruction in the narrow back streets.
"Last year the council consulted with residents with regards to a traffic regulation order to prohibit motorhomes from parking on Glenside and Marine Parade overnight. The council followed the statutory legal process for proposing the new traffic regulation order."
It added that due to objections from the public, the motorhome parking ban was not put into place.
The Council is currently keeping a record of comments received and will use this to inform the design of any relevant scheme that is proposed in the future.
