landmark has returned to Parliament, promising a significant financial boost for workers across the UK.

The bill, which aims to "kickstart the economy," could deliver up to £600 in cash benefits for millions of employees.

With a focus on enhancing workers' rights and conditions, the legislation addresses issues like low productivity, insecure employment, and strained industrial relations that have long held back the UK's economic growth.

According to the Government's Impact Assessment, this bill is projected to foster economic growth and raise living standards across the country.

As it reaches its second reading in Parliament today, the bill marks a vital move toward reforming the UK's labour market and aligns with the Government's Mission for Growth.

The legislation specifically targets some of the most economically disadvantaged areas in the UK.

It aims to tackle the hidden expenses associated with insecure work, potentially saving affected workers up to £600 annually in lost income. Currently, around 2.4 million people in the UK are engaged in irregular work patterns, including zero or low-hours contracts and agency positions.

These workers frequently encounter challenges such as costly childcare or transportation expenses for last-minute shifts, or they lose income when work is unexpectedly changed or cancelled.

New protections for workers are introduced in the bill, including guaranteed hours and adequate notice for shifts. These measures are designed to provide greater stability for those in irregular employment situations.

Employees impacted by abrupt shift changes or cancellations will be eligible for compensation for lost work.

This could enable workers to retain up to £600 each year, with particular benefits for those in the North and Midlands where irregular employment is most common.

The government also says that it will help kikstart the economy, as their analysis shows the package could have "a positive but small direct impact on economic growth" and will "help to raise living standards across the country and create opportunities for all."

The bill also seeks to level the playing field for businesses by raising standards and preventing the undercutting of responsible employers. It aims to make flexible working the standard option, which could result in a workforce that is happier, healthier, and more productive.
