Many presenters put on a persona while working on TV and many Top Gear fans have often wondered if that is the case for motoring stars Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May too. But now, some fans who have been lucky enough to have interactions with the Prime Video stars have shared what they are really like when the cameras aren't rolling.
Posting to Reddit, one fan of the car enthusiast show asked: "Has anyone met any of them in person? How did it go? Good/bad experience?" Another viewer replied: "I was one of the lucky hundred of extras who filmed the first Grand Tour episode in California! May - was more interested in the aviation and planes than the people. To be fair, there were an overwhelming amount of us. Seemed fitting though lol." Someone else replied as they quipped: "That was the most James May thing ever."
One more social media user shared their own experience of meeting the motoring presenter. "In 2012, there was something called Top Gear Live that they toured with and got to meet James May. Quite pleasant meet," they recalled.
Someone else echoed the sentiment of May being "pleasant", writing: "My friends lived on the old Brooklands race track, and met James May when he was recreating it with Scalextric. They made it onto his show and said he was very pleasant and lovely."
Another added that the man is a "legend", saying: "I met James at his pub. Absolutely awesome, just dumb luck he was there at the same time as me. He signed a bottle of his gin for me too. Legend."
A super keen fan admitted that they switched up their daily routine after a chance meeting with May in his local supermarket. They recalled: "I've met James May, he lived opposite my road when I lived in Hammersmith, London.
"I was queuing up in the Tesco which was located in between us and got a tap on my shoulder, turned around to him holding some chicken breasts asking how they tasted, if they were worth it if I've got them before?
"I was 15 and froze, thinking 'omg omg James May is talking to me' and blurted out 'yes, mega tasty' he said thanks and went to get some drinks. Since then I went to the Tesco at least once a day if I could."
