A stretch of the M6 was closed on Monday morning following a huge lorry fire with traffic quickly mounting.
The M6 was closed in both directions at around 2.30am today (April 14), before the southbound carriageway reopened about an hour later. Two lanes of the northbound carriageway then re-opened at around 11:30am.
In a statement on X, National Highways said: "M6 in Greater Manchester has re-opened northbound between J22 Winwick & J23 StHelens following a lorry fire.
"Lanes 1 & 2 (of 4) will remain closed until tonight, full closure overnight for emergency resurfacing. Please allow extra journey time. Thank you for your patience."
