Six days is a long time in the summer transfer window. These days, it's also a long time in the ongoing soap opera that is Manchester United, with Ruben Amorim's side sitting on just one point after two Premier League games following Sunday's 1-1 draw with Fulham.
It appears Amorim and co still have plenty of business to get through. Despite spending more than £200million this summer to bring in forwards Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, as well as left-back Diego Leon, United are still targeting more signings. Equally as important, though, is offsetting costs with the sales of a number of unwanted players before the deadline expires.
Express Sport looks at the six main deals the club still needs to complete before the 7pm deadline on September 1...
Sign Senne LammensThis should be the simplest deal for United to get over the line this week. Talks over a £16million deal for Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens are already at an advanced stage, with seemingly just the formalities remaining before the 23-year-old makes his move.
It's a signing that has now taken on extra importance, given the form of Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana's scheduled AFCON departure in January.
Sign Carlos BalebaUnited's initial approach was halted by Brighton reportedly seeking a fee in the region of £100m for the Cameroon midfield star. However, they are unlikely to be so brash as the clock ticks down to the deadline.
If the Red Devils hold their nerve this week, they should be able to negotiate a lower fee for Baleba. However, signing him appears inconceivable without raising funds from sales elsewhere.
Linked with Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, and Roma, yet all interested parties seem reluctant to commit to a permanent deal without a loan move first. With the winger said to be on around £250k a week at Old Trafford, United chiefs need to somehow strike a deal to sell him or risk him being able to sit on his salary without lifting a finger.
Sell AntonyThe never-ending talks between the club and Real Betis continue. Like with Sancho, United need a permanent sale to both boost the transfer kitty and cut the wage bill. Even if it means compromising over the asking price, the Brazilian forward simply has to go this week.
Sell Alejandro GarnachoAgain, United's demanded fee risks leaving them in limbo as Chelsea continue to baulk at the £50m asking price. If Amorim has no intention of reintegrating Garnacho, a notion that seems abundantly clear, then losing a few million is surely a better option than keeping a supposedly disruptive influence around the place.
Sell Rasmus HojlundIn a parallel universe, Rasmus Hojlund is thriving as the physical goal threat he was perceived to be when he arrived from Atalanta. In the real world, he's now way down the pecking order in Manchester with three new forward players on board.
The Dane is currently negotiating a potential move to Napoli. It's a deal United need to get sorted, or, once again, they'll have an expensive signing twiddling his thumbs until January.
