The tiny Scottish village of Plockton is one of the UK's best-kept secrets. Home to only 500 people, the majestic scenery, pretty harbour and abundance of wildlife in Plockton make it the perfect place for an autumnal trip.
The quaint village, nestled in the Highlands, packed full of activities for all the family. The village and its surrounding area are part of the National Trust-owned Balmacara Estate, boasting low moorland, small crofting townships, sheltered bays, coral beaches, and breathtaking views over the sea to the Isle of Skye, the Cuillins, and Applecross.
If you're planning to visit, the village has a wealth of activities to keep you occupied. Choose from paddle boarding, sailing, kayaking, cycling, and boat trips - fun for all the family.
The village is a tourist resort, often seeing many day-trippers in peak season. As we head into the autumn, numbers will fall, making it an ideal time to enjoy some quiet relaxation.
The village has a small general store with a café, a takeaway, a restaurant, a newsagent and a craft shop, three hotels with pubs, and numerous B&Bs, so there's no shortage of places to stay for a mini-break.

There are also guided walks available from April 1 to September 30 through the village's stunning native woods, open moorland, and around the coast and crofting townships.
One person wrote on TripAdvisor: "The walk is a little up and down, following a simple path in a circle, all of which only adds to the charm and mystery.
"My parents and I couldn't believe that the gardens were free, we've paid far more for less loved gardens over the years! There is a donation box at the end of the walk which we were thankful for. What an amazing 'best kept secret' Plockton has."
