Donald Trump is telling countries how much they will be tariffed by the United States as he threatens those that support BRICS nations with a 10% levy. The US President's Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, has confirmed that the deadline for countries to agree new deals before levies are reintroduced following a freeze will be moved from July 9 to August 1. Ms Leavitt also said that the leaders of 12 more countries will receive letters from the President, outlining the imposition of new tariffs.

Letters published on the president's Truth Social account have revealed that Japan and South Korea are set to be hit by a 25% charge. South Africa, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar and Kazakhstan have also been sent correspondence. It comes as a reprieve for the UK's steel industry is yet to be finalised, despite deal agreed earlier this year. The arrangement left open the threat that the current 25% tariff rate rising to 50%, the PA news agency reports.

"Any country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy," The US President wrote on his Truth social media network.
