Donald Trump's campaign slammed Saturday Night Live for presenting a skit on the assassination attempt on the former president. James Austin Johnson played the Republican presidential nominee. The actor made a direct reference to the July 13 Pennsylvania rally, where Trump was shot at. The official social media account of the Trump campaign posted saying, “There were two assassination attempts against President Trump within a span of 7 weeks. @nbcsnl apparently finds that funny. Disgusting” Supporters of the Republican party leader were visibly anguished by the actions of SNL.Johnson, who played Trump said, “They say that blaming the Democrats for inciting violence is the pot calling the kettle black.”
On the other hand, Colin Jost the show’s host ridiculed Donald Trump’s wife Melania Trump for holding Democrats accountable behind the assassination attempts against Trump as reported by Fox News. Overall, the show was trying to showcase top references to the upcoming presidential elections in November, 2024. This comes after former president Donald Trump survived two assassination attempts in a span of one and a half months. One was on July 13 in a Butler, Pennsylvania rally where Trump survived a bullet that just grazed his ear. In this assassination attempt one was killed and 2 others were injured. And the second attempt was on September 15 in Florida, where a 58 year old man Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested for attempting to target Trump using an AK-47 rifle where the Republican nominee was playing golf.
