Jared Harris Does NOT Want To Fill Father's Shoes As Dumbledore, Questions Need For Harry Potter TV Reboot

Not many are aware that award-winning actor Jared Harris is the son of the late Irish actor Richard Harris. One of Richard's last roles before his death was as Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films. Recently, Jared was asked whether he'd would like to take on his father's part in HBO's television series based on the JK Rowling’s book series. Here's why the BAFTA award winner for Chernobyl turned down the role.

Jared Harris doesn't want to play Dumbledore in Harry Potter rebootIn an interview with The Independent for their Go to Bat series, Jared Harris politely declined the chance to play Dumbledore, which his father originated in the films. Jared stated, "Also, I mean, why do it? I don’t understand. The films were fantastic – leave them alone."Richard played Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002). The 72-year-old died in October 2002 after a battle with cancer. Michael Gambon took over the part from the third film, Harry Potter and Prisoner of Azkaban (2004). The show has put out an open casting call to find its three young leads Harry, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The casting call notice states that they are on the lookout for children between the ages of 9-11 in April 2025 from the UK and Ireland. About the Harry Potter reboot seriesThe upcoming series will explore each of Rowling's seven books in one season. The show has some impressive names behind the scenes. Succession, His Dark Material s and Killing Eve producer Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner while, Emmy-winning director of Succession Mark Mylod is set to direct multiple episodes.
