CHANDIGARH: Blasts were heard in Jalandhar and surrounding areas during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, with debris from what appeared to be missiles or drones being recovered. Jalandhar remained on red alert throughout the night, as several drones and other objects were neutralised. An alert was also sounded in Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur on Saturday morning.

Debris fell on a house in Kangniwal village, located between Jalandhar and Adampur, causing structural damage and injuring one person. A crater approximately 8–10 feet deep was created in fields surrounded by four villages, including Sahni and Khalyan of Phagwara.

Residents of Kangniwal and neighbouring villages reported hearing a loud blast around 1.30 am, after which debris from a neutralised object fell on a house.

A separate loud blast was heard around 2.40 am in the villages of Khalyan, Sahni, and others located more than 12 km from Phagwara.

“Jalandhar was on red alert all night. Many objects and drones were seen and neutralised by the armed forces,” said Jalandhar DC Himanshu Aggarwal on Saturday morning. Minutes later, the red alert siren sounded again. At least two more blasts were heard in Jalandhar around 8.30 am, followed by another shortly after.

Following these events, at 8.46 am, DC Aggarwal ordered the closure of markets in Jalandhar Cantt and Adampur, as well as malls and high-rise commercial buildings across the district. The administration also issued an advisory against public gatherings, being outdoors, and staying in tall buildings. By 12.45 pm, Aggarwal stated that no further drone-related incidents had been reported since 11 am.

In Hoshiarpur, DC Ashika Jain issued a district-wide alert at 8.15 am based on input from the Air Force and urged people to stay indoors.

Debris was also discovered in the fields of Dhaliwal Bet village in the Mand area and Noorpur Lubana village near Begowal in Kapurthala district. A neutralised drone also fell into the Beas River near Goindwal Sahib. Kapurthala DC Amit Kumar Panchal ordered the closure of markets in Kapurthala and Phagwara, along with malls and tall commercial buildings. He later clarified that the closures were advisory in nature and urged residents to observe safety precautions.
