BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha govt has heightened security measures across the state's vital installations and coastline in response to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed on Friday.
In a high-level meeting with chief secretary Manoj Ahuja and director general of police Y B Khurania, Majhi outlined comprehensive security arrangements, particularly emphasizing the protection of the state's vulnerable 480-kilometer coastline.
"We have significantly enhanced surveillance at critical locations including the Chandipur missile test range, Puri Jagannath temple, Hirakud dam, and Rourkela Steel Plant,” Majhi told reporters after the security review meeting. "Special attention is being paid to strategic installations in the capital city,” the chief minister said while lauding the Indian armed forces for repelling Pakistan’s counterattacks and delivering a befitting reply to the ceasefire violations.
Majhi said the state's marine police force has been instructed to intensify coastal patrolling to prevent any potential seaborne threats. DGP Khurania conducted a virtual meeting with district superintendents of police (SPs), directing them to strengthen their intelligence networks and maintain heightened vigilance.
The DGP along with ADG (coastal security) Arun Bothra, assessed the operational readiness of the state's 18 marine police stations. Sources said that round-the-clock armed patrols have been launched along the coastline.
A senior police official revealed that the state's security apparatus is working in close coordination with the Indian Coast Guard and Navy. "We have activated our marine fishing community network and enhanced intelligence sharing mechanisms. Marine fishers have been urged to keep a close watch on all vessels and alert us in case of any suspicious movements," the official stated.
The police urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local police authorities. Officials emphasized that these preventive measures are part of standard security protocols during times of heightened international tensions.
“The situation continues to be monitored closely by top govt authorities, with security measures subject to review and adjustment based on evolving circumstances,” a govt official said.
