Jaipur: Of the nine gold medals distributed at RUHS's 10th convocation held in Jaipur Tuesday, eight were bagged by women students. At this year's convocation, 52 Doctorate of Medicine (DM) and 51 Master of Chirurgiae (MCh) degrees were awarded. Also, 21 researchers who completed their PhD programmes were awarded degrees. Fifteen of these PhD graduates were women.
Governor and chancellor of RUHS, Haribhau Bagde, acknowledged this remarkable achievement of female students and shared an anecdote about India's first woman doctor, who was married to a postal worker and earned her medical degree in the late 1880s. "Anandi Gopal Joshi was the first female doctor of modern medicine. She was married to a post office employee. She completed her studies and became the first female doctor of the country in modern medicine, inspiring women in this field in 1886," said Bagde.
He added, "Today's convocation is not just an academic achievement but a celebration of the dreams, struggles, and resolutions realised, especially by our daughters. In the fields of medical education and healthcare, women are emerging not just as participants but as leaders. This change is the result of the mindset of families, social support, and the hard work of the female students."
