Teenager assaulted in road rage case, dies; one arrested

Kanpur: In a tragic incident, a teenager died after being brutally assaulted by a group of men in a road rage incident in the Kalyanpur police station area of the city. The victim was identified as Sumit Valmiki, a 17-year-old student residing in Nankari Baghia, Kalyanpur.

On April 24, while travelling on his scooter, Sumit collided with a motorcycle belonging to Ravi, his neighbour Guddu's brother-in-law. The collision led to a confrontation after which Ravi attacked Sumit. Following the incident, Sumit returned home and informed his family. When his mother, Manju, visited Ravi's residence to solve the issue, she received threats from Guddu's wife.

On April 25, a group comprising Ravi, Anand, Gunnu, and about eight to ten unidentified people surrounded Sumit on the road. After verbally abusing him, they attacked him using sticks, hockey sticks and physical blows before departing. The grievously injured Sumit was admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries late on the night of April 26 and 27 while receiving treatment.

Following the death, the police sent the body for a post-mortem examination. The incident triggered intense distress among the victim's relatives. The police initially filed assault charges and are now in the process of including additional charges.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Kalyanpur, Abhishek Kumar Pandey, said, "One named person identified as Guddu has been arrested. Teams have been deployed to arrest others, who will be apprehended soon. Investigations are underway." .
